Yuandong Hu graduated from Northeast Forestry University with a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Landscape Architecture from 1998 to 2005, and obtained a PhD in Urban Ecology from East China Normal University in 2016.

Since 2005, he has been employed at the School of Landscape Architecture at Northeast Forestry University, where he has held the following positions:

Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Director of the Landscape Architecture Planning and Design Teaching and Research Section and subsequently, Head of the Department of Landscape Architecture.

Since 2022, he has concurrently served as an associate professor and as the vice dean of the Institute of Ecological Science and Engineering in Arid and Semi-Arid Zones at Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology.

His main research interests is urban ecology, with a particular focus on urban biodiversity and design, urban landscape pattern evolution and its ecological environmental effects, urban ecosystem services and human well-being.

So far, more than 40 original research and commentary articles have been published.

In addition, he also serves as an editorial board member for several Chinese journals such as Landscape Architecture, Chinese Urban Forestry, and Landscape Studies.
